Pakistan Aluminium Beverage Cans Ltd (PABC) has announced plans to establish a new beverage can manufacturing facility in Afghanistan, with an investment of $110 million.
The company informed the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) of this development through a notice issued on Tuesday. According to the notice, the board of directors had already approved the establishment of a unit with an annual production capacity of 1.3 billion cans on 30 October 2025. The project, however, remains subject to regulatory and other customary approvals, which are now in the final stages.
The announcement comes at a time when relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan remain tense. After Islamabad urged the Afghan Taliban administration to act against militant groups, bilateral relations have further deteriorated, while repeated border closures have significantly disrupted trade between the two countries.
Sources noted that in October, PABC had warned that prolonged border closures could adversely affect its sales and regional business operations, especially in Afghanistan and Central Asia.
