NDMA Issues Weather Advisory: Rain, Snow, and Possible Road Closures in Mountainous Areas

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an advisory regarding possible rainfall and weather conditions over the next 2 to 3 days.

According to NDMA, due to the western winds entering the country tonight, rain is expected in most areas, and snowfall is likely in mountainous regions. On December 30, the intensity of the winds will increase further, resulting in rainfall in upper and central areas on December 31.

NDMA stated that snowfall and potential road closures are expected in several mountainous areas, including Naran, Kaghan, Swat, Dir, Kohistan, Murree, Galiyat, Skardu, and Hunza. There is also a risk of landslides and avalanches in the hilly areas of Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Kashmir.

The NDMA has advised citizens, tourists, and travelers to avoid unnecessary travel and take precautionary measures. Due to the rainfall, the intensity of fog in central and southern Punjab and upper Sindh is expected to decrease.

Provincial and district disaster management authorities (PDMAs, GBDMA, SDMAs) and local administrations have been instructed to remain alert. NDMA added that relevant authorities are being provided with continuous updates and guidance to monitor the situation.

Citizens can also get guidance on the weather situation and precautionary measures through the NDMA Disaster Alert App.
