Construction of Pakistan’s major historic projects—the Dedicated Freight Corridor and the Multimodal Logistics Park at Pipri—has officially commenced.
According to information, the inauguration ceremony was attended by Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi and Chairman and CEO of DP World Group, Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, as chief guests. Senior officials from the National Logistics Corporation (NLC), DP World, Pakistan Railways, and port authorities were also present at the event.
Sources said that the 52-kilometre dedicated freight railway line from Karachi Port Trust to the Pipri Marshalling Yard will be rehabilitated within four months. At Pipri, a state-of-the-art multimodal logistics park will provide integrated rail, road, and port facilities at a single hub. Upon completion, the project will significantly reduce congestion at Karachi’s ports, lower transportation costs, save time, and decrease environmental pollution.
Through this vital corridor project, the transportation of imports and exports to China, Central Asia, and other regional countries will become cheaper, faster, and more efficient. After completion, imported containers arriving at Karachi Port will be transported directly to Pipri via rail.
By improving supply chain efficiency, the project will also enhance Pakistan’s competitiveness in regional and global trade. This landmark initiative is expected to prove a major milestone in the development of Pakistan’s logistics and transport infrastructure.
