KARACHI: The Businessmen Group (BMG), under the leadership of renowned industrialist Zubair Motiwala, has registered a thumping victory in the Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI) elections for the 2026-28 term. The BMG-backed panel made a clean sweep of the polls held on Saturday, September 26, 2026, securing a overwhelming mandate with approximately 90% of the total votes cast.
According to the provisional results issued by the KCCI Election Commission, BMG candidates dominated both the Corporate and Associate categories, reflecting the business community’s strong confidence in the group’s leadership and economic vision.
In the Corporate Category, the BMG panel demonstrated absolute dominance. Shahid Ismail of Premier Cables (Pvt) Ltd emerged as the top vote-getter with 1,547 votes. He was followed by Muzzammil Rauf (Chappal Traders) who secured 1,540 votes.
The victory margin was substantial, with a cluster of BMG candidates securing over 1,530 votes each, including Zafar Saeed Baghpati (1,537), Aslam Pakhali (1,537), Faisal Jahangir (1,537), and Ahsan Saleem (1,537). Other prominent winners included Mobeen Waqar (1,532), Aslam Pervez (1,531), and Khalid Riaz (1,530).
The momentum continued in the Associate Category, where the BMG panel secured all major seats. Haji Asif Chamdia of Chamdia Trading Company and Amir Mansha of Amir International led the pack, tying for the top spot with 1,501 votes each.
They were closely followed by Talat Mahmood (Ideal International) with 1,497 votes and Mohammad Ibrahim Kasumbi (Umair Corporation) with 1,494 votes. The high vote counts for BMG candidates across the board signaled a unified vote bank and a decisive rejection of opposing panels.
The 90% strike rate is being hailed as a strong endorsement of the BMG’s policies. Political and business analysts view this landslide as a clear signal that the Karachi business community seeks continuity and strong representation to navigate the current economic challenges.
The results were formally attested by Election Commission members Aamir Abdullah Zaki, Asif Younus, and Khurram Saigal, alongside Chief Polling Agents Shams Burney and Younus Bashir, and Secretary General S.M.H. Rizvi.
With this decisive mandate, the BMG is set to steer the KCCI for the next two years, focusing on advocacy for tax reforms, infrastructure development, and fostering a pro-business environment in the metropolis.
