Pakistan Pitches Long-Term Food Security Partnership to Qatar

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has offered Qatar a long-term food security partnership, presenting its agricultural production capacity and supply chains as a reliable means of meeting the Gulf nation’s food requirements.

The offer came during a meeting between Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan and Hassad Food Chief Executive Ali Hilal Al-Kuwari on the sidelines of the World Investment Forum 2026, according to a statement issued Monday.

The two discussed enhancing cooperation in agriculture, food security, agribusiness and agricultural supply chains, with talks focused on strengthening bilateral food and agricultural trade, exploring reliable sourcing arrangements and developing long-term partnerships between institutions and businesses in both countries.

Jam Kamal highlighted Pakistan’s agricultural production capacity and its potential to support Qatar’s food security needs through quality products, dependable supply arrangements and stronger commercial partnerships. He invited Hassad Food to participate in FoodAg 2026, scheduled for Nov. 23-26 in Karachi, which would give Qatari investors and businesses an opportunity to engage directly with Pakistani agricultural producers, exporters and government institutions.

During the forum, the minister also held bilateral meetings with Turkish Deputy Trade Minister Mustafa Tuzcu and Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani, chairman of the Qatar Businessmen Association.

In his meeting with Tuzcu, Jam Kamal discussed strengthening Pakistan-Tรผrkiye economic and commercial relations, with emphasis on expanding bilateral trade, promoting investment and identifying new opportunities in agriculture, food security, energy, minerals, manufacturing and technology. Both sides stressed the importance of translating their longstanding strategic partnership into stronger economic linkages and discussed enhanced regional connectivity and improved transit routes to facilitate trade and strengthen regional supply chains.

The minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to deepening economic cooperation with Tรผrkiye and invited Turkish investors to explore opportunities in Pakistan, particularly in minerals and other priority sectors.

In his meeting with Sheikh Faisal, Jam Kamal discussed strengthening business-to-business linkages and identifying new avenues for collaboration in information technology, logistics, agriculture and food security. He highlighted Pakistan’s skilled workforce and growing capabilities, saying Pakistani professionals and skilled workers could contribute significantly to Qatar’s economic development.

Both sides underscored the importance of promoting direct engagement between the Pakistani and Qatari business communities to facilitate investment, expand bilateral trade and establish mutually beneficial commercial partnerships, and expressed interest in maintaining close engagement to identify practical opportunities in the agri-food sector.
