Yemen has reiterated its desire to further strengthen trade relations with Pakistan and has called for activating bilateral trade agreements between the two countries.
According to reports, this development surfaced during a high-level meeting in Islamabad between Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal and Yemen’s Ambassador Mohammed Mutahar Al-Ashabi. In the meeting, Ambassador Al-Ashabi highlighted the historic ties between the two nations and emphasized Yemen’s interest in enhancing trade engagement with Pakistan. He stated that despite logistical and regional challenges in recent years, Yemen considers Pakistan a reliable partner.
He also informed that nearly 300 Yemeni students are currently studying in Pakistan, which reflects the strong people-to-people ties between the two countries. The ambassador stressed the need to reactivate existing bilateral agreements and strengthen institutional mechanisms to facilitate trade processes.
Jam Kamal reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to deepening economic cooperation with Yemen, adding that Pakistan attaches high priority to expanding trade with regional and nearby markets. He emphasized the importance of creating efficient and low-cost logistics channels for SMEs.
Ambassador Al-Ashabi added that the Ministry is exploring ferry-based small shipping services to reduce freight costs and improve travel time for regional trade. The minister observed that Pakistan’s growing business and SME sectors could greatly benefit from improved access to nearby markets such as Yemen, Somalia, Ethiopia, and Oman. He assured that Pakistan would act on institutional proposals and maintain engagement through relevant platforms to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
According to sources, both sides expressed confidence that sustained dialogue, improved logistics, and the revival of regular cooperation mechanisms will help create new opportunities for trade and investment between Pakistan and Yemen.
