Pakistan has received its first-ever shipment of U.S. crude oil, marking a new chapter in Pakistan–U.S. trade relations. The cargo arrived at Cnergyico’s offshore terminal located along the Balochistan coast, delivered via the Suezmax vessel MT Pegasus, which anchored at Cnergyico’s Single Point Mooring (SPM) port.
Earlier in August, it was reported that Cnergyico would import one million barrels of crude oil from Vitol during the current month.
According to sources within Cnergyico Pakistan Limited, the arrival of this first shipment of U.S. crude represents a major milestone for both Pakistan’s energy sector and Cnergyico itself. This initial consignment will be followed by a second shipment in mid-November and a third expected in January 2026. Collectively, these three cargoes are projected to improve Pakistan’s trade balance with the United States by approximately USD 200 million.
Sources added that the SPM facility, Pakistan’s only offshore crude oil handling terminal, enhances the efficiency of receiving large vessels, reduces logistics costs, and optimizes refinery operations.
These imports not only diversify Pakistan’s crude oil supply sources but also strengthen bilateral trade ties between Pakistan and the United States, contributing to the country’s long-term energy security.
In September, after successfully assessing the commercial viability of its first shipment, Cnergyico placed an order for a second batch of U.S. crude oil, paving the way for further imports in the near future.
It is worth noting that in 2023, Cnergyico had also made history by becoming the first private sector company in Pakistan to import Russian crude oil, which was purchased at discounted rates.
