The Collectorate of Customs Enforcement, Karachi, successfully seized over 42,200 liters of smuggled Iranian diesel worth more than PKR 12 million during an operation near the Northern Bypass on Friday.
Based on credible intelligence, Customs teams, under the supervision of senior officers, conducted a synchronized operation in the early hours of the morning, aimed at intercepting the smuggled goods before they could reach a safe location. The operation led to the discovery of several hidden tanks and temporary storage facilities.
According to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), the seized fuel has been shifted to the Caspean State Warehouse, Korangi, for safekeeping.
The FBR stated that this operation highlights its commitment to curbing the smuggling of petroleum products, which harms the national exchequer and legitimate trade. The institution also reiterated its full commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against smuggling to ensure strict enforcement across the country and promote the protection of legal businesses and national revenue.
It is worth recalling that last month, the Customs Marine Enforcement Unit in Karachi intercepted three wooden launches carrying 132,564 liters of smuggled Iranian High-Speed Diesel (HSD) valued at over PKR 78 million. That seizure was termed the largest single action against Iranian diesel smuggling to date.
