Myanmar Crackdown on Online Fraud Centers: 38 Pakistanis Among Hundreds Rescued

Amid a large-scale crackdown on online fraud centers in Myanmar, the local military has rescued hundreds of foreign nationals, including 38 Pakistanis.

Officials stated that these individuals were being forced to work for various online fraud networks.

The Thai Army crossed the Myanmar border and rescued 38 Pakistani citizens, transferring them to the Bangkok Immigration Center, from where they will be deported to Pakistan in phases. In this regard, Thai authorities have formally sent a letter to the Pakistani government.

The Thai government further revealed that an additional 60 Pakistanis are staying in a shelter house in Myanmar after escaping from different fraud centers.

Authorities have urged Pakistan to conduct a detailed investigation of the deported individuals and to take strict action against agents involved in human trafficking. Additionally, the Thai government has recommended that the names of the returning Pakistanis be placed on the Exit Control List (ECL) for five years.

According to the FIA, Thailand, Myanmar, and Cambodia have become major hubs for online fraud, where criminal groups lure young people with fake online job offers and work visas.

The FIA added that Pakistani youth traveling to these countries are often detained and forced to engage in illegal activities. Therefore, the public is advised to avoid falling victim to deceptive advertisements and fake visa schemes.
