Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has announced the resumption of flights from Islamabad to London after a six-year hiatus.
According to sources, PIA’s notification stated that the flights will operate from the state-of-the-art Terminal 4 at Heathrow Airport. The London route is not only the airline’s first international route but also considered the most popular. Since 2020, there had been no direct flights between Pakistan and the northern London airport.
It is worth noting that in October, PIA resumed direct flights to Manchester, UK, after a five-year gap.
This return became possible after the UK removed PIA from its Air Safety List on July 16. According to a statement sent to Business Recorder, this decision was based on technical audits and significant improvements in the airline’s aviation safety standards.
Notably, the government completed the sale of a 75% stake in its national carrier on Tuesday, worth Rs 13.5 billion, ending years of delayed efforts to privatize the loss-making airline.
