The launch of the freight train service between Islamabad, Tehran, and Istanbul, scheduled to start today, has been postponed due to the lack of security clearance.
According to sources, railway officials stated that the Railways Department had announced the start of the Islamabad-Tehran-Istanbul freight train service from December 31. The train was supposed to depart from Islamabad, reach Spezand Junction via Sibi, and then enter Iran through Mirjawa via Nushki and Dalbandin. The Quetta Division authorities had completed all preparations for the train’s arrival in the Quetta region.
However, the Railways Department postponed the launch of the freight train service one day before its scheduled departure due to the absence of security clearance. It is worth noting that Federal Railway Minister Mohammad Hanif Abbasi and the Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan, Dr. Reza Amiri, had agreed earlier this year to restore the freight train service.
