ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s textile exports grew 5.55% in the first two months of fiscal year 2026-27, totaling $3.38 billion compared with $3.20 billion in the same period last year, the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics reported Friday.
Officials attributed the increase to stronger shipments of knitwear, readymade garments, towels and cotton yarn, though exports of cotton cloth fell during the two-month period.
Knitwear exports reached roughly $1 billion in July and August, a 4.79% increase from $859 million a year earlier. Readymade garments showed the sharpest growth among major categories, climbing 13.59% to $827 million from $728 million.
Not all segments advanced. Bedwear exports dipped 0.31% to $563.54 million from $565 million. Towel exports, meanwhile, increased 6.74% to $191 million from $179 million.
Cotton yarn recorded the largest percentage gain of any category, with exports jumping 34.80% to $160.68 million from $119.20 million. Cotton cloth was the exception to the overall trend, falling 7.66% to $276.25 million from $299.18 million.
The bureau’s data points to uneven performance across the textile sector at the start of the fiscal year, with value-added products such as garments and knitwear offsetting weaker results in cotton cloth and a slight pullback in bedwear.
Textiles continue to account for a substantial share of Pakistan’s merchandise exports, and industry manufacturers say they are prioritizing higher-value goods and new overseas markets as they look to build on the early gains.
