Salt Manufacturers demand tax return date extension

KARACHI: Ismail Suttar, Chairman of the Salt Manufacturers Association of Pakistan (SMAP), has called on the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to grant more time for the submission of income tax returns, pointing to ongoing technical glitches on the IRIS online filing system.

Suttar noted that many taxpayers are struggling to complete and lodge their returns because of repeated problems with the portal. He highlighted that delays in the availability of return forms, combined with persistent system disruptions, have created significant hurdles for individuals, traders and businesses trying to meet the current deadline.

According to the SMAP chairman, an extension would enable taxpayers to prepare and file accurate returns and meet their legal responsibilities without facing penalties for difficulties that are outside their control.

Ismail Suttar urged the FBR to provide a suitable additional period so that taxpayers are not unfairly affected by administrative delays or technical faults that interfere with the filing process.
