Argentina Offers Pakistan Advanced Storage Technology to Boost Food Security

Argentinian Ambassador Sebastián Severo has offered Pakistan modern grain storage technology to strengthen the country’s agricultural capacity and food security.

Speaking at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), Ambassador Severo expressed Argentina’s willingness to expand cooperation with Pakistan in agriculture, livestock, and food security, sharing its technical expertise to enhance productivity and reinforce the food chain.

LCCI President Faheem-ur-Rehman Saigal, Senior Vice President Tanveer Ahmed Sheikh, Vice President Khurram Lodhi, and representatives from the Argentine Embassy were also present at the event.

The ambassador revealed that both countries are discussing a pilot project for establishing modern grain silos, which would increase Pakistan’s storage capacity and reduce post-harvest losses.

He highlighted that collaboration in biotechnology, agricultural machinery, meat processing, and IT could create new economic opportunities for both nations.

LCCI President Saigal noted that Argentina is one of the major economies in Latin America, with bilateral trade with Pakistan reaching USD 394 million. Pakistan’s exports stand at USD 51 million, while imports from Argentina total USD 343 million — a gap he emphasized must be narrowed to improve trade balance.

He further stressed that there is significant potential for cooperation in information technology, renewable energy, pharmaceuticals, and tourism. Exchange of business delegations and participation in trade fairs, he added, would help further strengthen bilateral ties.
