According to information received from sources, the government has appointed Dr. Kabir Ahmed Sidhu as Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) with immediate effect.
As per the notification, in exercise of the powers conferred under Section 6 of the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan Act, 1997 (XLII of 1997), the Federal Government has appointed Dr. Kabir Ahmed Sidhu as Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan with immediate effect.
It is noteworthy that Dr. Kabir Ahmed Sidhu has been appointed in place of Akif Saeed.
Dr. Kabir Ahmed Sidhu holds a Bachelor’s degree in Law, an LL.M. and a PhD in Banking, Insurance, and International Business Law from the University of Manchester. He has also obtained a postgraduate diploma in Civil Litigation from the Manchester Law Society, as well as certificates in mortgage and financial advisory from the London Institute of Banking and Finance.
Dr. Kabir Ahmed has over 20 years of experience across various sectors, including work with insurance companies, law firms, and compliance departments of financial institutions in the United Kingdom, as well as with various law firms and government ministries in Pakistan.
Prior to this appointment, he was serving as a Senior Legal Consultant in the Ministry of Law.
