Gilgit-Baltistan has been declared a non-tariff area following an agreement with the federal government. After the agreement was finalized in Hunza, the Supreme Council and the Traders’ Alliance Committee announced the end of their 68-day-long sit-in at Sost. With the conclusion of the protest that had been ongoing for 68 days at the Pakistan-China border, trade and tourism activities between the two countries have resumed.
According to a statement issued by the Supreme Council and the Traders’ Alliance Committee, an agreement has been reached with the federal government under which Gilgit-Baltistan has been declared a non-tariff area. As per the declaration, traders of Gilgit-Baltistan will be exempt from sales tax, income tax, and federal excise duty.
