Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has assured complete transparency and merit in the privatisation of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), announcing that the bidding process scheduled for December 23 will be broadcast live on national television.
He was addressing a meeting with all business leaders and companies participating in the PIA privatisation process.
The meeting was held at the Prime Minister’s House and was attended by federal ministers Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Ahsan Iqbal, Muhammad Aurangzeb, Attaullah Tarar, Azam Nazeer Tarar, Sardar Awais Leghari, Minister of State Bilal Azhar Kayani, PM’s adviser Muhammad Ali, Special Assistant Haroon Akhtar, and senior officials. Representatives of all institutions involved in the bidding were also present.
The Prime Minister said that the government is committed to restoring the lost reputation of the national airline and aligning it with modern aviation and service standards.
He further stated that the privatisation process is progressing smoothly to revive PIA and transform it into a competitive airline.
Expressing confidence in the future management, the Prime Minister added that, God willing, PIA will once again live up to its slogan “Great People to Fly With.” After the bidding, whoever takes charge will be responsible for restoring the airline’s reputation and focusing on its growth.
The Prime Minister said that the restoration of PIA’s international flights will greatly facilitate overseas Pakistanis. He added that upgrading the national airline is also crucial for promoting Pakistan’s tourism sector.
The participants of the meeting appreciated the government’s professional and transparent strategy in the privatisation process.
