The Punjab government has officially issued a notification for the commencement of the sugarcane crushing season across the province. According to the notification, all sugar mills in Punjab will begin operations from November 15, 2025.
The provincial government has directed all sugar mills to start crushing operations on the scheduled date, warning that strict action will be taken in case of any delay.
Sources in the Price Control and Commodities Management Department stated that district administrations, the Special Branch, and Anti-Corruption teams have been instructed to conduct visits to sugar mills to ensure full compliance with government directives.
The Cane Commissioner of Punjab has directed all Deputy Commissioners to form special monitoring teams in their respective districts to supervise the crushing operations. Any delays or violations are to be reported directly to the Cane Commissioner’s office.
Deputy Commissioners have also been instructed to personally notify the Cane Commissioner in case of any breach of the government’s directives. The government has set a clear deadline, and district monitoring teams will be present on-site from November 15 to ensure strict enforcement of the crushing season orders for 2025–26.
It is noteworthy that any violations of government directives may result in up to three years of imprisonment or a minimum daily fine of Rs. 1 million. The Cane Commissioner Punjab has made it clear that no leniency will be shown towards those who break the law.
