Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb has begun his busy schedule in Washington D.C., where he is attending the annual meetings of the IMF and World Bank along with his team.
On Monday, the Finance Minister officially commenced his engagements with a meeting with Ricardo Puliti, Regional Vice President of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) for the Middle East, Central Asia, Türkiye, Afghanistan, and Pakistan.
During the meeting, the Minister highlighted Pakistan’s improved macroeconomic indicators and appreciated IFC’s partnership in promoting private sector investment, under which billions of dollars are being invested through the 10-year Country Partnership Framework (CPF).
Both sides agreed to expedite the financial closure of IFC’s flagship investment in the Reko Diq project. The Finance Minister also welcomed the establishment of IFC’s new regional office in Islamabad.
Senator Aurangzeb also held a productive meeting with Dr. Muhammad Sulaiman Al Jasser, President of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB). He thanked the Bank for its long-term support to Pakistan, reviewed the ongoing project portfolio, and emphasized the importance of accelerated implementation.
The Minister expressed gratitude to IsDB for approving financing for two sections of the M-6 Motorway, and reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening cooperation on polio eradication and oil financing facilities. Both sides also agreed to work on a new Country Engagement Framework for Pakistan.
