In the interbank market, the Pakistani rupee strengthened by 0.06 percent against the US dollar at the start of trading on Monday. The rupee improved by 18 paisa to reach 279.93 per dollar.
It is worth noting that last week the Pakistani rupee also began 2026 on a positive note and closed at 280.11 per dollar in the interbank market, after gaining 6 paisa or 0.02 percent.
On the global front, the US dollar stayed strong at the start of the first full trading week of the new year. It reached a three and a half week high against the euro and a two week high against the Japanese yen. The dollar rose by 0.1 percent to 1.1704 per euro, after earlier touching 1.170025, its strongest level since December 11.
The dollar also gained 0.2 percent against the Japanese yen to reach 157.08 yen, and during the day it touched 157.255, the highest level since December 22. Against the British pound, the dollar rose 0.1 percent to 1.3443, and it also strengthened by 0.1 percent against the Canadian dollar to 1.3745. The Australian dollar fell 0.2 percent to 0.6682.
