In the interbank market on Wednesday, the Pakistani rupee gained 0.09 percent against the US dollar within the first few minutes of trading. The rupee improved by 25 paisa to reach 279.82 against the dollar. On Tuesday, the local currency had closed at 280.07.
Meanwhile, on the global market on Wednesday, the US dollar remained within a narrow range. In early Asian trading, there was no major volatility in currencies, although the Australian dollar saw a notable move. After inflation data came in below expectations, the Australian dollar fell 0.3 percent to a low of 0.6717 US dollars.
The British pound (sterling) stayed steady at 1.3502 dollars, while the Japanese yen showed slight improvement at 156.63. The dollar index held at 98.58, and the New Zealand dollar was last recorded at 0.5784 dollars.
