Air Link Indicates Delay in Xiaomi Car Launch in Pakistan Due to China Demand

Air Link Communication has indicated that the long-anticipated launch of Xiaomi Cars in Pakistan will be delayed, as the Chinese technology company focuses on meeting the increasing demand for Electric Vehicles (EVs) in its local market.

According to company management, the launch in Pakistan was initially expected this year. However, due to unexpectedly surging demand in China, Xiaomi is prioritizing the production of Left-Hand Drive (LHD) vehicles to satisfy its domestic market needs.

A Topline report stated that the management does not anticipate a launch in Pakistan in the near term.

Air Link also mentioned that it is continuing discussions with the government regarding export approvals, and upon approval, revenue is expected to increase by over 200%.

Last year in September, the Xiaomi SU7 Max Electric Car was spotted at Karachi Port when reports emerged that Air Link, which manufactures Xiaomi mobile phones in Pakistan, was partnering with the Chinese company to launch electric vehicles in the Pakistani market.

Following this development, Air Link CEO Muzzafar Hayat Piracha confirmed to Business Recorder that the company had imported two units of the Xiaomi SU7 electric car. However, he cautioned that decisions regarding an assembly plant would be made based on market situation and strategy.

The company also stated in its corporate briefing session that revenue improvement is expected following the transfer to Sundar Green SEZ (Special Economic Zone) after receiving tax exemptions. According to the management, the facility is nearing completion, and they expect the relocation to be finalized by December 2025 or the first half of the fiscal year 2026.

The report also noted that Air Link plans to open Pakistan’s first Apple Retail Store by the end of 2025, alongside establishing a Xiaomi retail outlet in Dolmen Mall, Lahore.

According to the management, Air Link is in the process of adding another mobile brand for manufacturing and distribution. It is also working with an international brand to expand its product portfolio to include air conditioners, washing machines, and microwaves.

However, no formal agreement has been finalized yet.
