EU Commissioner praises 47% decline in illegal “donkey route” attempts from Pakistan

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said in a statement yesterday that EU Commissioner for Home Affairs and Migration, Magnus Brunner, has appreciated the 47% reduction this year in attempts to reach Europe from Pakistan through the illegal “donkey route,” calling Pakistan’s efforts exemplary.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi informed that he held an important meeting in Brussels with EU Commissioner for Home Affairs and Migration, Magnus Brunner, in which detailed discussions were held on preventing illegal immigration, measures against human trafficking, and enhancing mutual cooperation. According to the statement, EU Commissioner Magnus Brunner paid strong tribute to the Government of Pakistan for the 47% decline over the past year in attempts to reach Europe through illegal routes (“donkey routes”) and termed Pakistan’s actions exemplary.

Mohsin Naqvi stated that during the current year, 1,770 human traffickers and their agents have been arrested in Pakistan, and it was agreed in the meeting that the joint and coordinated strategy against illegal immigration, human trafficking, and drug smuggling would be further strengthened. He added that the nexus among smugglers, drug mafias, and terrorists poses a serious challenge to every country, and close international cooperation is essential to counter this threat.
