The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has fixed a one-time honorarium of Rs. 500,000 for the Chairperson of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee (ADRC), provided the tax liability involved in the case exceeds Rs. 50 million.
According to reports, the FBR has amended the Income Tax Rules, 2002 and issued SRO 2076(I)/2025 in this regard.
Under the revised rules, if the tax liability is up to Rs. 50 million, the ADRC Chairperson will receive Rs. 300,000 as honorarium, while committee members will receive Rs. 150,000. However, if the tax liability exceeds Rs. 50 million, the Chairperson will be paid Rs. 500,000 and each member Rs. 250,000.
FBR stated that the honorarium will be paid in lump sum to committee members appointed under clauses (i) and (iii) of sub-section (3) of Section 134A of the Income Tax Ordinance after the committee’s decision is issued.
The amended rules also clarify that the ADRC Chairperson and members will be entitled to TA/DA equivalent to officers of BPS-22 and BPS-21 of the Federal Government.
This decision aims to streamline and expedite the tax dispute resolution process, ensuring timely and transparent decisions in high-value cases.
