The Federal Cabinet on Saturday approved the draft of the 27th Constitutional Amendment. The approval was given during a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, which was held via video link from Baku, Azerbaijan, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
The PMO stated that the cabinet members welcomed the proposed amendment, which aims to strengthen relations between the federation and the provinces and ensure broader constitutional reforms. Following the cabinet’s approval, the draft will be presented to Parliament for final endorsement.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister thanked the coalition partners for their cooperation and appreciated the efforts of the Law Division, the Attorney General, and their teams in finalizing the constitutional amendment.
He said that the amendment was prepared after considering the national interest and following extensive consultations with the allied parties. “We worked together to achieve this milestone for Pakistan’s stability and progress,” he added.
The Prime Minister mentioned that he also consulted with party leader Nawaz Sharif for guidance on the amendment and thanked President Asif Ali Zardari for extending his cooperation.
Shehbaz Sharif also praised the role of Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui of Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan, Abdul Aleem Khan, Khalid Hussain Magsi, and Chaudhry Salik Hussain, noting that their parties fully supported the proposed legislation. He also mentioned that Eimal Wali Khan, Ejaz-ul-Haq, and other political leaders were consulted to build consensus.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated that the country is moving in the right direction due to political and economic stability. He added that all stakeholders must work collectively for Pakistan’s progress and prosperity.
