According to sources, the ongoing rescue operation at Gul Plaza in Karachi has entered an extremely critical phase. After the deaths of 26 people, families of 83 missing persons are anxiously waiting for news of their loved ones.
Sources said officials fear the death toll may rise further, as rescue teams are facing serious difficulties in accessing the unstable upper floors of the building. According to the concerned Deputy Commissioner, rescue teams have cleared the first floor of Gul Plaza, while search operations are continuing on the second and third floors. He said around 40 percent of the building has collapsed, and the remaining structure has become extremely fragile.
Sources added that heavy machinery and rescue vehicles have been standing idle for several hours. Limited rescue teams are carrying out operations at the rear of the building with very limited resources. Earlier this morning, vehicles parked on the rooftop were lowered with the help of a crane.
Meanwhile, Police Surgeon Dr. Samia shared key details, stating that only 7 out of the 26 bodies recovered so far have been identified, as many bodies are so badly burned that identification is impossible. She said DNA samples from 48 relatives of the victims have been collected to ensure accurate and final identification of the bodies.
According to sources, eyewitnesses and affected families have expressed serious concern over delays in the rescue operation and demanded the immediate deployment of additional manpower and modern machinery. Authorities said the severely damaged and unstable condition of the building requires extreme caution to protect rescue workers from any secondary collapse. For now, the area behind Gul Plaza has been sealed, and the search for the 83 missing persons continues.
