Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan Sign Wide-Ranging Cooperation Agreements Across Multiple Sectors

Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan on Thursday signed several agreements aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation in multiple sectors, including energy, mining, trade, agriculture, culture, health, tourism, and regional connectivity. These agreements were concluded during a ceremony at the Prime Minister’s House, held on the occasion of Kyrgyz President Japarov’s first official visit to Pakistan on the invitation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Among the agreements was one establishing a sister-city relationship between Islamabad and Bishkek, as well as an MoU outlining cooperation for using Pakistani ports for regional connectivity.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Japarov also signed a joint declaration titled Strengthening Comprehensive Cooperation in the Interest of Both Countries, aimed at further enhancing bilateral relations.

The two sides exchanged MoUs across various fields, including cooperation between Pakistan’s Foreign Service Academy and Kyrgyzstan’s Diplomatic Academy; cooperation between the Kyrgyz Ministry of Economy and Trade and Pakistan’s Ministry of Commerce; collaboration in agriculture, mining and geoscience, energy, and the use of Pakistani ports; an agreement on the exchange of prisoners; electronic data interface in customs services; cooperation in tourism and surgical instruments; cultural agreements; the sister-city partnership between Bishkek and Islamabad; cooperation between the Kyrgyz Ministry of Justice and Pakistan’s Ministry of Law and Justice; partnership between the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme and the Kyrgyz Ministry of Culture, Information, Sports and Youth Policy; and collaboration between Kyrgyzstan’s Diplomatic Academy and Pakistan’s National University of Modern Languages (NUML).

On the occasion, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan is ready to provide landlocked Kyrgyzstan access to regional and global markets through its ports.

Speaking to the media, the Prime Minister said that in today’s detailed discussions, both sides exchanged views on bilateral ties and important regional and international issues. He reaffirmed the shared commitment to elevate Pakistan–Kyrgyzstan relations to a higher level in political, trade, connectivity, energy, agriculture, education, defence, and cultural sectors.
