According to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Pakistan Customs seized gold and silver worth more than Rs306 million at international airports during the first five months of fiscal year 2026.
Data released yesterday showed that authorities confiscated 234.133 tolas (2.73 kilograms) of gold worth Rs100.67 million, while 30,785 tolas (359 kilograms) of silver valued at Rs205.67 million were also seized.
Customs sources said there has been a noticeable increase in attempts to smuggle silver, mainly due to its rapidly rising prices. Silver imports are strictly regulated by the State Bank of Pakistan and the Ministry of Commerce; however, market analysis indicates that over the past ten months, silver prices have more than doubled and, in percentage terms, have outperformed gold.
Sources added that the sharp rise in silver prices is encouraging smugglers to bring silver into the country through international travel routes.
