Chairman of the Pakistan Vanaspati Manufacturers Association (PVMA), Sheikh Umar Rehan, has termed the agreement between Pakistan and Indonesia aimed at promoting trade cooperation in palm oil and related sectors as a significant and positive development for the vanaspati and cooking oil industry.
An MoU was signed between the Pakistan Vanaspati Manufacturers Association (PVMA) and the Indonesian Palm Oil Association (GAPKI) to promote mutually beneficial trade opportunities. Speaking on the occasion, Sheikh Umar Rehan said that Indonesia is an important trading partner for Pakistan in palm oil, and this MoU will play a key role in further strengthening trade relations between the two countries.
He stated that the agreement will help ensure a stable supply of palm oil, improve trade terms, and promote long-term stability for the industry, which will directly benefit consumers and the national economy. He further added that under the memorandum of understanding, avenues for information sharing, joint initiatives, and new partnerships between the private sectors of both countries will be created. This is expected not only to benefit the vanaspati and cooking oil industry but also to increase the overall volume of bilateral trade.
Sheikh Umar Rehan emphasized that PVMA considers such international cooperation extremely important for protecting the domestic industry, ensuring the timely availability of raw materials, and maintaining price stability. He also appreciated the Government of Pakistan’s efforts in trade diplomacy and support for the private sector, stating that the presence of Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan reflects the government’s serious commitment to promoting industry and exports.
He expressed hope that this MoU would serve as a strong foundation for future trade relations between Pakistan and Indonesia and provide new opportunities for cooperation between the private sectors of both countries. According to Sheikh Umar Rehan, the agreement will pave the way for sustainable collaboration, joint strategies, and enhanced bilateral trade in palm oil and other related sectors, positively impacting the national economy and the food industry.
It is worth noting that the MoU was signed by Chairman PVMA Sheikh Umar Rehan on behalf of Pakistan and Chairman of the Indonesian Palm Oil Association, Mr. Eddy Martono, on behalf of Indonesia. The signing ceremony was attended by Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan, while Indonesia was represented by Deputy Minister of Trade Ms. Dyah Roro Esti. Senior officials and key figures from both the public and private sectors of the two countries were also present at the event.
