According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Interior on Monday, Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi inaugurated a state-of-the-art monitoring system named SHUKRA, designed to fully streamline passport applications, printing processes, and the overall performance of the Passport Department.
The system, called Square Hybrid Intelligence for Knowledge Band Response Analytics (SHUKRA), marks a significant step toward full digitalization at the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports. The Ministry of Interior stated that SHUKRA enables 24/7 monitoring of the entire passport process, from initial applications to final delivery, across Pakistan and Pakistani embassies worldwide.
The statement added that new German-made machines have been installed to automate the printing process, effectively eliminating human intervention and enhancing departmental efficiency. Additionally, the security features of Pakistani passports have been upgraded to meet International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) global standards. Emergency travel document issuance has also been digitized under the Interior Minister’s directives.
During his visit, Mohsin Naqvi inspected the newly activated 24/7 call center, forensic lab, and digital integrated dashboard. The briefing highlighted that the system can automatically detect peak hours at specific offices and monitor the status of machines to prevent delays (backlogs) in passport production.
The Interior Minister said that the Pakistani passport system has now been aligned with the best international systems. The new system will allow real-time monitoring of passport applications and deliveries both in Pakistan and worldwide. Every stage, from application to delivery, will be closely monitored. The goal is to ensure fast, secure, and globally-standardized services for citizens.
DG FIA, DG Immigration and Passports, Chief Commissioner Islamabad, IG Islamabad Police, and other senior officials were also present on the occasion.
