Pakistan Signs $603.4 Million Financing Agreements with Islamic Development Bank

Pakistan has signed three agreements worth $603.4 million with the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB). The agreements were signed between the Government of Pakistan and IsDB Vice President Dr. Rami Ahmed.

According to sources, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema, Federal Minister for Poverty Alleviation and Social Protection Syed Imran Ahmed Shah, and other senior government officials were also present at the signing ceremony.

Sources said that under the poverty alleviation project, funding of $118.4 million will be provided. Through this project, 68,500 families will be enabled to improve their livelihoods by creating employment opportunities and contributing to human capital development.

In addition, $475 million will be provided for the M-6 Motorway project. This is a 120.8-kilometer important section of the Peshawar–Karachi Motorway, which will help connect a missing link in the country’s North–South Corridor.

Furthermore, $10 million will be allocated for the Out-of-School Children project in Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Under this initiative, 60,000 out-of-school children will be supported through non-formal education, 135 schools will be upgraded, 250 learning centers will be established, 4,000 teachers will be trained, and climate-resilient educational facilities will be constructed.

According to sources, IsDB Vice President (Operations) Dr. Rami Ahmed arrived in Islamabad on Sunday on an official visit to Pakistan. His visit, scheduled from January 18 to January 21, 2026, aims to continue strategic engagement with Pakistan, strengthen cooperation for sustainable development, advance major IsDB-funded projects, and hold consultations with senior government leadership on national priorities and the Bank’s 2026 work program.
