Preparations have begun to reopen the Pak-Afghan Torkham trade crossing for business, with Customs authorities ordering staff to immediately report to the Torkham Terminal.
Customs sources confirmed that a scanner for the clearance of cargo vehicles has been delivered to the Torkham Terminal. The scanner had been removed from the terminal on the night between October 11 and 12 due due to heightened tensions at the border.
According to Customs sources, the Torkham border crossing was closed eight days ago following escalating Pak-Afghan tensions.
Afghan security sources stated that hundreds of travelers have also arrived at the Torkham border on the Afghan side, having received information that the border is being reopened.
It should be noted that the Torkham trade crossing was closed for all types of movement due to the recent tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Dozens of vehicles loaded with fruits, vegetables, and other goods destined for Afghanistan were stranded within Pakistani territory. The Ghulam Khan border from North Waziristan and the Angoor Ada border from South Waziristan were also closed.
