President Asif Ali Zardari and the Ameer of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, met in Doha to discuss ways to further promote bilateral cooperation in the political, economic, and cultural spheres.
Key Areas of Cooperation
- Defence and Production: The President of Pakistan offered to enhance cooperation in the fields of defence and defence production. The Ameerr of Qatar responded positively, assuring that he would instruct relevant authorities to commence immediate consultations with Pakistan.
- Agriculture and Food Security: President Zardari also proposed boosting partnership in the agriculture and food security sectors.
- Investment: President Zardari welcomed Qatar’s commitment to investment, expressing confidence that bilateral cooperation would be further strengthened. This follows recent Qatari interest in a $3 billion investment across various Pakistani sectors.
Pakistani Community and Regional Role
The Ameer of Qatar praised Pakistan’s development achievements and acknowledged the role of the Pakistani community in Qatar’s progress, expressing a desire to significantly increase their numbers in the coming years.
President Zardari conveyed greetings and goodwill from the government and people of Pakistan to the Ameer of Qatar, praising Qatar’s remarkable development under his visionary leadership. Both leaders affirmed the continuation of their historic and fraternal relations, based on faith, mutual trust, and shared goals for the progress and prosperity of the Muslim Ummah.ameer
President Zardari also lauded Qatar’s global role, paying tribute to the Ameer for advocating for a ceasefire and humanitarian aid for Palestine, especially Gaza.
The Ameer of Qatar described the recent defence agreement between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia as timely and welcome, stating that Pakistan holds a unique position, maintaining strategic relations with China, the West, and the Gulf countries simultaneously.
Future Engagement
President Asif Zardari extended an invitation to the Ameer of Qatar to visit Pakistan, which he accepted, stating that he would travel to Pakistan in early next year. The President also paid tribute to the Qatar Foundation for Development and other Qatari personalities involved in educational and humanitarian services.
