President Asif Ali Zardari and the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, held a meeting in Doha during which they discussed ways to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in political, economic, and cultural spheres.
During the meeting, President Zardari proposed enhanced collaboration in the fields of defence and defence production. The Emir responded positively and assured that he would instruct the relevant authorities to initiate consultations with Pakistan without delay. President Zardari also suggested expanding partnership in agriculture and food security.
The Emir of Qatar appreciated Pakistan’s development achievements and praised the significant role of the Pakistani community in Qatar’s progress. He expressed his desire to see their numbers increase substantially in the coming years.
President Zardari conveyed warm wishes and goodwill from the government and people of Pakistan and commended Qatar’s remarkable development under the Emir’s visionary leadership. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to continuing the historical and brotherly ties rooted in faith, mutual trust, and shared aspirations for the prosperity of the Muslim Ummah.
President Zardari lauded Qatar’s global role, particularly its advocacy for a ceasefire in Palestine—especially in Gaza—and its efforts to facilitate humanitarian assistance.
The Emir of Qatar welcomed the recent defence agreement between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, calling it timely and encouraging. He noted that Pakistan holds a unique position as it maintains strategic relations simultaneously with China, the West, and the Gulf states.
President Zardari appreciated Qatar’s commitment to investment in Pakistan and expressed confidence that bilateral cooperation will continue to grow stronger. He also paid tribute to Qatar Fund for Development and other Qatari organizations contributing to education and humanitarian services.
President Zardari extended an invitation for the Emir of Qatar to visit Pakistan. The Emir accepted and confirmed that he will visit early next year.
