Sugar Prices Surge Again as Mafia Remains Unchecked; Rates Jump by Over Rs 10 per Kg

The sugar mafia remains out of control, and government measures to reduce prices are proving ineffective, as the price of sugar has once again increased by more than Rs 10 per kilogram.

According to the data, the maximum price of sugar in the country has reached Rs 220 per kg, whereas last week the highest recorded price was Rs 210.

Official figures show that Karachi residents are forced to buy the most expensive sugar, where the price has reached Rs 220 per kg.

According to the Bureau of Statistics, the maximum price of sugar in Quetta is Rs 216 per kg, in Hyderabad Rs 215, and in Bannu citizens are compelled to purchase sugar at Rs 212 per kg.

Data shows sugar is available at Rs 205 per kg in Larkana, Rs 200 in Sukkur, and Rs 190 in Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

The report states sugar is being sold at Rs 180 per kg in Gujranwala and Sialkot, Rs 180 in Faisalabad and Sargodha, and Rs 179 in Lahore.

The average price of sugar across the country has been recorded at Rs 189.61 per kg, compared to last week’s average of Rs 188.81 per kg.
