U.S. President Donald Trump has stated that he is considering the possible sale of Lockheed Martin–manufactured F-35 stealth fighter jets to Saudi Arabia.
According to sources, Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One that Saudi Arabia is looking to purchase several combat aircraft and has requested him to evaluate the proposal. Trump added, “They want to buy many F-35s, and in fact, they are interested in acquiring even more fighter jets.”
This development comes ahead of Trump’s meeting with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who is scheduled to visit the White House next week. The two sides are expected to discuss and potentially sign economic and defense agreements.
When asked about the negotiations, Trump emphasized that the meeting reflects a relationship based on mutual respect, not just a formal encounter. He also expressed hope that Saudi Arabia may soon join the Abraham Accords, which have played a significant role in normalizing relations between Israel and several Muslim-majority nations. However, Riyadh has maintained its stance that it will not join the deal without a clear roadmap for the establishment of a Palestinian state.
Meanwhile, a Pentagon intelligence report has raised concerns over the potential F-35 deal, warning that if the sale proceeds, China could gain access to the aircraft’s advanced technology.
