World Bank Reaffirms $20 Billion Investment Commitment for Pakistan Under 10 Year Development Program

The World Bank Group’s Managing Director, Ms. Anna Bjerde, has reaffirmed a commitment of 20 billion dollars in investment for Pakistan under a 10 year development program.

According to sources, she made these remarks during a meeting with Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, on the sidelines of the AlUla Conference for Emerging Market Economies held in Saudi Arabia. The Finance Division mentioned the meeting in a press release. During the discussion, both leaders exchanged views on the Country Partnership Framework and Pakistan’s development priorities.

Referring to the recent visit of World Bank President Ajay Banga to Pakistan last week, Ms. Bjerde highlighted the importance of continued engagement and effective implementation to maximize the development impact of the program. Sources said both sides reviewed the progress made under the Country Partnership Framework and discussed next steps to further strengthen development cooperation.

A wide range of key sectors was discussed, including energy, education, health, climate resilience, debt for development swaps, financial reforms, and infrastructure development. Emphasis was placed on adopting a more focused strategy, introducing clear performance trackers, and ensuring stronger and more effective implementation mechanisms so that commitments translate into tangible results.

According to sources, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb reiterated the Government of Pakistan’s commitment to close cooperation with the World Bank Group and assured full support through relevant federal ministries. He also stressed that the role and cooperation of provincial governments are crucial for better coordination, timely implementation, and delivery of measurable results under the program.
